Diabetes is a condition wherein the body cannot make insulin or use it properly, leading to high levels of sugar in the blood. Diabetes is on the rise, yet most cases are preventable and some can even be reversed.

Taking steps to prevent and control diabetes doesn’t mean living in deprivation. It only helps an individual to gain energy and improve mood.

Don’t worry you don’t have to completely give up sugar and resign those yummy sweet dishes. With these tips, you can still take pleasure from your meals without feeling hungry or deprived but definitely in limits.

The first and the foremost tip is to get up and lose weight. Consult your doctor, dietitian and fitness trainer and take a step towards a healthy weight just to lower down your sugar levels. It is advised to keep a check on your blood sugar level twice a day so as to track your progress and other body activities.
Exercise for at least 30 minutes a day for maintaining sugar blood levels in the body. Exercises also help in releasing stress. Try walking, dancing, swimming, playing, aerobics exercise and riding bicycle on regular basis.

Diabetes make heart diseases more likely. Therefore, doctors suggest to control your blood pressure, cholesterol, and triglyceride levels. Keep a regular checkup and take medications as prescribed. Researchers found that the intake of low fat vegan diet (non- starchy, high fiber and low carbohydrates vegetables like spinach, broccoli, green beans, etc.) may help type 2 diabetes patient to better manage their condition. Don’t even think of skipping any meal!

Limit your consumption of alcohol as it hardly contains any nutritional value, but contain a lot of calories.

Try to manage your stress or try not to take excess stress as it elevates blood sugar levels. Relief yourself by taking a short nap, sitting quietly for 15 minutes, mediating and practicing yoga.

Sleeping is always good for health as it helps in losing weight and maintaining the blood sugar levels as per the body’s requirement. Doctors strictly recommend to take an eight to nine hours sleep at night for a better and healthy living not only for diabetic patients but for all.

Get a complete checkup twice a year. Diabetes usually affects Kidney, Nerves, Heart, Food and Eye. These should be examined properly after a regular interval of time. Missing or ignoring any symptom will give birth to a lot many diseases.
