About Strabismus and Squint
This happens when both the eyes cannot align simultaneously, in other words both the eyeballs do not align together as a result giving an impression of being cross eyed. The visual axes of the eyes are not parallel and the eyes appear to be looking in different directions. In most cases, children are born with it and sometimes it is genetic while in other cases there are no known causes. At times it could be a result of a problem with the nervous system, especially the part that controls the eyes. The best known treatment procedures are doing some eye exercises, putting an eye patch on the weaker eye so that it copes with the other or in some cases surgery. Strabismus might lead to double vision and if not corrected in childhood it can continue to adulthood. In adults, if strabismus is seen suddenly without a prior history, it could be something serious like a stroke. So it’s best to consult a doctor immediately.
